Amid several resignations over the past three months, the Historic Districts Commission cannot hold a public hearing.

The commission canceled its October meeting, according to Chairwoman Anne Eccles.

“As it stands now, the October meeting is canceled and all (Historic Districts Commission) matters are being handled administratively, under guidance from the state,” Eccles stated, although she did not respond by press time to clarify.

Since early June, six commissioners have resigned, four of them in protest to the appointment of Robin Lovett, a former associate member of the commission, to a full member. Jon Wardwell had resigned in June without stating a reason and Britta McCarthy announced her plans to resign effective Aug. 11 in a letter dated July 27 because she is moving out of town.
